The Piazza del Campo is the social center of the beautiful city of Siena. Defeated in battle by its rival city Florence in the 16th century and thereafter subjugated so that it couldn't threaten Florentine ascendancy in the region. The result is a lovely city center which hasn't changed dramatically in 500 years.   (33/42)
